Training philosophy
Hands-on from the start.
Interns are in the room for the sickest patients from week one, with senior residents and attendings there to teach and back them up. As interns, we get exposed early and often to procedures to develop competency.
By second year, senior residents are running the pods alongside the attending, assisting interns in procedures and developing flow management, across sites that range full tertiary centers to community ED settings.
Curriculum
Three years, from foundations to supervising junior residents to attendinghood.
PGY1
Foundations across medical and surgical emergencies, critical care, plus early ED blocks at both sites to build the fundamentals.
PGY2
Heavier ED volume, EMS and toxicology, ultrasound, and the running shifts as the senior resident.
PGY3
Administrative and resuscitation leadership, electives toward fellowship, and a month-long community rotation in Hawaii.
Where you'll actually train
Worcester brings every kind of patient through the door.
Worcester's patient population is genuinely diverse and growing city with patients from all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and medical complexities. Outside the hospital, it's an affordable city with a solid food and bar scene, close to Boston, the coast, and the New Hampshire mountains to use a day off.

Faculty
Mentorship that lasts all three years.
Attendings are fellowship-trained across ultrasound, EMS, toxicology, sports medicine, critical care, and more, and mentorship carries across the full three years. That relationship shows up outside the hospital too: Red vs. Blue Team resident-faculty sporting competitions, an annual crawfish boil, and other get-togethers throughout the year.

Graduates go on to community practice, military service, academics, and fellowship.
Residents pursue fellowships in EMS, ultrasound, toxicology, sports medicine, critical care, and administration, among others, or head straight into community practice.
